12 KML chess players attended the 2024-25 WI Junior Open, a qualifying event for the 2025 US Open. Three KML players contended with the best in the Open Section while nine others gained valuable experience in the Reserve Section.
Notable finishes included:
OPEN SECTION
- Carson Reik - 4th place overall out of the 46 players in the section, with 4 wins in 5 rounds - highest finish for a KML player since we began attending the Junior Open ten years ago.
- Dylan Hanson - 6th place overall with 3 wins and a draw in 5 rounds. Won best of the Under 800 Rated Class. Picked up 356 rating points - a huge number and great accomplishment.
- Sawyer Yogerst - 10th place with 3 wins and a draw in 5 rounds. Won best of the 1000-1199 Rating Class.
- Riley Lechmaier - 5th place overall out of the 46 players in the section, with 4 wins in 5 rounds.
- Evan Senfleben - With 2 wins and 2 draws in 5 rounds, won best of all the Unrated Players in the section.
