KML Players Boost Ratings and Win Hardware at WI Junior Open
Congratulations
to Olivia Schaenzer who took 1st place out of 81
players in the Reserve Section at the WI Junior Open this weekend. Xander
Neuwirth placed first among other unrated players in Reserve. They bring home some nice hardware for their accomplishments!
A big reason for attending the WI Junior Open is to work on our USCF ratings. Those who have applied for USCF membership will start watching their ratings climb as they play and improve. (Look up ratings at uschess.org.) In general, you gain rating points by playing people higher rated than you. Here are the ratings results from the WI Junior Open for our KML Chargers:
Olivia: Before = unrated, after USM meet and WJO = 1407P. (The P stands for provisional until you have played 25 rated games.)
Xander: Before = unrated, after USM and WJO = 949P.
Luke: Before = unrated, after WJO = 689P.
Dylan: Before = unrated, after USM and WJO = 408P.
Ben: Before = unrated, after USM and WJO = 511P.
Ted: Before rating =1395, after USM and WJO rating =1437P.
Josh and Ashley played in the unrated beginners section and each scored 2 of 5 wins.
Isaac played at USM and not at the WJO, so his provisional rating is for 1 game = 1054P. You can expect your rating to bounce around a lot until you are off of provisional status.
Way to go Chargers!

2016 KML Chess Camp
These awesome campers played a lot of chess this week! It was fun to teach the beginners and to see how much some of the intermediates have grown since last year's camp. Thanks to our KML alumni and KML students who taught our campers. Our theme was SERVE because We Serve Our King!

Chargers Draw Against Kewaskum
Charger
chess players took on Kewaskum Tuesday. Luke Eisner won on board 2 and Dylan
Schulz won on board 5. A draw on board 1 from Ted Molkentin led to a draw for the
match and the Chargers’ varsity record is now 2-2-1 for the season. Olivia
Schaenzer won her JV game. The Chargers host Muskego on February 9.
A particularly well-played game for Dylan on Board 5 as he learns to put together a complete game. He was able to break things loose, gobble up pieces and find checkmate as his clock wound down under two minutes. Great job, Dylan!
