Chess 2014-15 ready to begin

Hello, KML Chess Enthusiasts!
We will offer two different meeting times this year: Wednesdays 330-430 in Room 1166, and Mondays 430-6 in Room 1166. Even if you can’t make it every week, drop in when you can for a game. Of course, we will also teach skills to those who want to learn more.

First meetings:
Wednesday, September 24 330-430 in room 1166
Monday, September 29 430-6 in room 1166

I will have info on scrimmaging other high school clubs in the area, as well as beginner friendly tournaments if you're interested.

As always, if you have any questions, email Mrs. Molkentin: amolkentin@gmail.com. Thanks!

What we learned at KML Chess Camp

We've learned opening principles, castling, tactics (forks, pins, skewers, discovered attacks). We even had a "Charger Duel," giving teams a chance to discuss the best move possible and duel it out. Tomorrow it's on to common checkmates.

In need of chess t-shirt designs

We need to design the club t-shirts for KML Summer Academy. Time to get creative! If you have ideas, please share with Mrs. Molkentin. Preference will be given to designs that exude chess confidence along with a good Christian attitude. Have fun with it!

Club scrimmage at West Bend East today

It was evident our players had learned and practiced their opening principles, piece safety and tactics. Nice job! And thanks to West Bend for being such great hosts - they even provided pizza! Two great groups of students, friendly competition. Thanks, Neighbors!

No Chess on Thursday - Spring Break Starts

Since school was cancelled Friday in honor of the girls basketball team, there will be no chess on Thursday afternoon. Have a wonderful spring break. Be ready for our scrimmage against West Bend the Tuesday after we return from break. Go KML!

PIZZA and Chess with West Bend H.S. Chess Club

We have an opportunity to scrimmage members of the West Bend High School chess club on Tuesday, April 1 beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 5:15 p.m. This will be informal play, and give us a chance to play others. West Bend will have at least 8 players, so it would be nice for us to bring a nice group of players, all ability levels.

Please let Mrs. Molkentin know if you CAN attend.
Also please reply if you will need transportation. We would leave KML around 330 p.m. and return by 5:45 p.m.
MOST IMPORTANTLY – The West Bend Chess Club will provide PIZZA for all of us. It’s their way of saying thanks for making the trip to their campus.

Ladder Tournament Going On

We are attempting to set up a scrimmage with West Bend High School's Chess Club. They are an informal group just like us, looking to improve their skills. Stay tuned on this one. In the meantime, join the Ladder Tournament and challenge someone to play, either during club meetings or on chess.com. Turn in your notation and you can move up (or down) the ladder.

Welcome to the KML Chess Club Blog!

Here you can keep up with club activities and the learning resources we suggest at club meetings. It's a work in progress, so please send your feedback and questions to chess@kmlhs.org.
